One of my favorite new blogging resources for creating graphics quickly is Canva. It’s geared for non-designer to create great graphics easily. Canva includes layouts for:
- Pinterest graphics
- Social media
- Presentation
- Poster
- Facebook cover
- Blog graphic
- Twitter header
- Photo collage
- Facebook ad
- Facebook post
- Business card
- Invitation
Reasons to Give Canva a Try
Preset sizes so there is no need to guess what size you need to make a twitter header or the ideal size for Pinterest image but you can also create custom size images as well.
Beautiful designed layouts to use as your starting point
One of things I like about Canva beside the fact that it is a free, web-based program that I can use from any computer is once you sign up they send you tutorials on how to better use the program. They do offer low-cost graphics as well. I recently stumbled across a great list curated by Ileane on Canva video tutorials.

Hi Wanda! Oh this is perfect! I have been thinking that it’s time to create some of my own graphics and images. This would be a great place to start. It’s like you read my mind! Thank you, I have never heard of Canva. I’ll check it out and let you know what I think. It might take me a week or so though. For some reason, I am crazy busy!!
Blessings,
Ceil

I’d never heard of it before, but I’ve been used to “rolling my own” in the graphics world since the early days of Photoshop 3. Nowadays I use GIMP (a close equivalent to the power of Photoshop, but free), and have it installed on both my desktop and laptop. I also use Pixlr from time to time for special effects – web-based, also free. GIMP 2.8 has a lot of power, but the interface is not for the person who might find Canva appealing – there are many free tutorial videos out on YouTube for those who want to delve a bit more into doing graphics work and don’t mind the learning curve in exchange for greater control (and a bit less of the cookie-cutter feeling I was left with).
Overall, it looks like a good tool for non-designers to start learning and experimenting with design elements.
Thanks for the tip, Wanda! I’ll add it to the bag o’ tricks 🙂

Well you’re an old pro Rick. I have used Gimp some in the past. It was not as easy for me to do certain things so I moved to another graphic program. I have also used pixlr as well. I like it too.

I tried creating something but couldn’t figure out how to download it to my computer. It was asking me to share it. I will look over the tutorials. Designing my own graphics is something I’d like to do.
Wanda says
Hi Barbie, to download it you will just hit the link and publish button which will cause a pop up screen to display. From there select image and it will download to your computer.
