Yesterday’s 5-Minute Friday theme was see. Although I didn’t personally participate in it, I read several posts by other bloggers who did. They wrote with grace and eloquence about our need to see. How many times have I heard the phrasee (and even quoted it a few), “seeing is believing”. But the more I mature, I realize that isn’t always the case. For the believer, that constant craving to see stands in opposition of our call to faith.
In fact Hebrews defines faith as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen. The very things we hope for are made from our faith. The need to see shows us what currently exits but robs us of the ability to perceive the possibility of what could be. Living only in the sight world leaves us stagnated and living one dimensionally. Ella over at Ella’s Edge wrote a post recently entitled Dwell in Possibility. Those three words were inscribed on a card she received. What a powerful call to action….DWELL in POSSIBILITY.
Where have you made your homestead lately?
Love this post Wanda, while I confess to sometimes wanting to “see” I have been dwelling more in the possibility lately rather than living only in the sight world. I look forward to the day when I do so even more.
Thanks Bernadine! Far too often I’m looking to see things instead instead faith it.
I’ve been touched by this, Wanda. So many times when we sing “the best is yet to come”, we automatically think about things on earth that we desire, but there is the Spirit of God within calling us to be stirred up beyond what is seen. That is where we should dwell, in that place of longing to see what is still unseen….the craving for the fulness that is beyond human understanding. I always get excited at the promise of “revelation’ because when I look around at what I CAN SEE in the greatness of God’s creation of this world, the POSSIBILITY OF WHAT IS UNSEEN just leaves me encouraged. When I think of homestead, I think of the word of God. I don’t think I can go wrong by making His word my dwelling place:
For by faith we understand that the worlds were fashioned by the word of God, and these things that are seen came into being out of those things which are unseen. – Hebrews 11:3
So eloquently stated Lavonne. What we do see points to evidence that a God in which we can’t behold with our eyes is indeed at work. To abide in His Word is a perfect place to dwell for it is there God promised to manifest himself to us.
Well, Wanda – what an interesting post! Because I am currently in the middle of moving my *homestead* from one house (where I’ve lived for 28 years) to another one 2 hours away. It’s been challenging on many fronts. It will be a big lifestyle change as I move from the suburbs to the mountains, away from family and friends.
I would love to *see* my future – but God is definitely calling me to FAITH!!
GOD BLESS!
(Sorry I’ve been MIA in Blog Land. Moving is a full-time job!)
Hi Sharon, no apologies needed moving is a big job. To transplant oneself from a place you’ve dwelled 28 years is a great undertaking but I look forward to hearing what the future unfolds for you during the journey. Life has been a bit hectic on my end as well.
