Now I’m no domestic goddess but I do enjoy reading all the nifty DIY tips other domesticteers (yes I just made that word up) share on their blogs. And just last week, I found myself in need of one those handy homemade tricks. After spending hours at my desk writing and typing, I lift my right arm for little break only to discover that red ink was all over my arm. Oh I was thankful to see that I had managed to have my sleeve rolled up. So I was off to wash that ink off.
The Ink Stain Returns
Imagine my surprise when I discovered a nice BIG red ink stain on my sleeve as I was preparing to change into my night-clothes. Immediately my mind flashes to all the people who must have seen me walking around with that stained shirt and then I remember. Oh yes it was cold out. Thank goodness because it was cold I had worn a jacket as I was in and out of stores with my sister and niece. But what was I to do about the ink stain that now had a chance to set on my shirt? Off I went to Pinterest to find a list of laundry tricks I read some time ago.
My Saving Grace
Relieved that I found it again but I wasn’t too sure hairspray was going to work and it helped some but it didn’t get all the stain off. So I kept searching for answers. Off I went to One Good Thing by Jillee and tada I find my miracle solution—hand sanitizer. Who knew it was good for something other than stinking up your hand with that awful smell of alcohol cleaning your hands in the absence of soap and water? I sure didn’t. But after letting the hand sanitizer soak over night on the ink stain and washing it out in cold water, I could still see some of it. However, after washing it the shirt looked like new.
What laundry tips have you discovered that work?

I love tips like this. My greatest cleaning discovery has been the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I have used it to remove burned-on spots on my ceramic top stove, crayon from a painted wall, permanent marker from a plastic storage tub, tea stains from the countertop, and on and on. I keep one handy at all times now!

Yes, those little magic erasers do come in handy. I didn’t realize it removes permanent markers though. Always something new to learn.

I found the hand sanitizer one by accident, when I dropped a pen onto my khaki pants. All I had at my desk was Purell. It worked!
My favorite tip: if you run out of those dust cloths for your Swiffer, used dryer sheets work. Just wrap a couple of them around the head and smoosh the edges into the little holes that hold them. 🙂

Oh I like that about users dryers sheets, although lately I’ve been using the bounce bars. I read some where about using those soft dollar store socks in the place of the Swiffer sheets and that has worked out great for me.

Isn’t it funny how these little tips never cross our minds until we actually need them? I have saved a few outfits and many dollars by quickly applying some of those tips. Plain soap plus hot water and/or peroxide has worked for me often.
Wanda says
Peroxide really? I’ll have to remember that one. I always have some that at the house.
