In a world filled with nothingness and through the lens of utter void, God crafted a world of beauty and ordered the chaos of an unchartered land. Unlike the beginning of time, our world is amassed with people and activities. The slates of our lives are filled with responsibilities and expectations that often leave us feeling chaotic.
So how does one weed through the daily grind, endless information, and never-ending tasks to clear a path for creative endeavors? The resounding call to do more—blog more, comment more, work more, buy more, volunteer more, attend more events—can have us on the Ferris wheel of life without taking a moment to step off and stroll at leisure.
Remember Your Design
I must admit I have not figured it all but I believe the first key to making room for creativity is to remember our original design. You were made in the Father’s likeness to be a reflection of Him in the earth. In the beginning, we find Him creating, speaking, and bringing order.
Have you managed to lose sight of your original intention?
Make Time
While might not all have the same happenings in our lives, we each have been given the same 24 hours each day. Activity and productivity are highly prized in society but solitude is often neglected. Although we might not hear magnitudes of voices urging us to spend time alone, its what we need to clear out the noise of life and get the creative juices flowing again.
Do you purposely set aside alone time each day?
How about carving out some special time this week for just you and your thoughts.

I’m alone most of the day, since I became unemployed. I try to go out once in a while, just to be around other people. A weekly Spanish class is helping. And I do have quite a few online friends. Hopefully I’ll find a job soon; being alone is not helpful when all you do is worry about things.

Hi Elizabeth, I can see how too much alone time can leave you open to wandering thoughts. I think the key is having a healthy balance between activity and solitude.

Gosh Wanda, you perfectly described my week: “The slates of our lives are filled with responsibilities and expectations that often leave us feeling chaotic.” I miss taking the time to do the things I love, photography, writing, etc. Even taking a walk is abbreviated these days because it seems like there are not enough hours in a day. Thank you for sharing reminding your readers on the importance of using that creativity however the Lord has gifted us.

Susan, it looks many of us juggling multiple expectations and struggling to find the balance. Hope you are able to do something you enjoy this weekend even if it’s only for a few minutes.

That word “open” is knocking on my heart today. There’s a thread of it running in my own blog. God never intended for us to be locked into anything that would hinder our original design. Very powerful thoughts here. We have to carve out the time to meditate on who He is and all that He has created us to “be”. You reminded me of this not long ago, Wanda, in one of your responses: that we can’t just keep doing without taking the time to just “be”.

Hmmm, taking a selah moment on “God never intended for us to be locked into anything that would hinder our original design. I have enjoyed some being and breathing time today.
