Can God be trusted with my future? Haven’t we all found ourselves asking this question in some format or another?
If you have grown up in church like me, perhaps you would never phrase the question in that way. But each time we struggle with letting go of our agendas to follow Christ, we are asking can I trust God to lead me along the right paths. Can I trust that God’s plan includes things that I enjoy?
The battle to surrender fully to Christ is one that wages continuously for me. Life looks nothing like I expected at this age. And despite all that I have been taught I still want to hold onto the reigns to ensure things will turn out favorably for me.
Yet control is just an illusion. But trust is a choice, not just a one-time decision of saying yes to God but a series of daily and moment by moment choices.
What will you choose? What will I choose?
I was drawn to the opportunity to read Giving God Your Future, a Women of Faith Bible study because it’s in the daily choosing that I can get stuck. And, right from the beginning
of Thelma Well’s foreword I found a travel companion that knows what it’s like to love God but struggle in the letting go. She admits to saying “Girl, I can’t give everything to God. I don’t know what He would want me to do. He might want to send me to Africa, and I don’t like flies.”
Yep she wondered just like us at times, if God will send us along a path that includes things we don’t like.
As I’m working my way through the Giving God Your Future study, I like that the study really focuses on you picking up your own Bible and digging out truth. Although each section begins with a practical example from a woman’s life, the bulk of the study focuses on you reading God’s Word and discovering what Scripture says about surrendering to Him.

Wanda, since my word for the year is “trust”, this paragraph resonated loudest:
“Yet control is just an illusion. But trust is a choice, not just a one-time decision of saying yes to God but a series of daily and moment by moment choices.”
“Giving God Your Future” would definitely be the study I would most like to read. Thanks for sharing and giving the opportunity to possibly receive this blessing!

Trust…while it’s a relatively short word it has such a big impact in our lives, doesn’t it? May we each make those moment by moment choices count. Good luck, Karen.

Hi Wanda,
I’m sure all three of the bible studies would be a huge blessing. But Giving God Your Future and Building Your Strengths speak to me the most. I think, if we’re honest, we’re all a little challenged with letting go of our plans and placing our future in the hands of God. Better yet, acknowledging that it’s already in His hands, because like you said, “Control is an illusion.” a HUGE illusion, for sure. Thanks so much for sharing this review.

Hey Monica,
Funny in a God kind of way to see your comment. You crossed my mind today. So true our lives are never out of his hands no matter how out of sort they may appear at times. Hope you’re doing well and wishing you good luck.

Looking back, I am always so surprised at where God has led my life and how He has used me in ways I never even considered. For instance, I am feeling a nudge to host a women’s breakfast once a month at our church. I think these books sound perfect for the discussion time. I am especially interested in Patsy Claimont’s Building Your Strengths. Thanks for the info on these Wanda! Your words are another nudge from God to DO THIS!
Wanda says
Hi Pam, it is very interesting to see how God has a way of guiding us into the most unlikely places that we perhaps never would have seen ourselves choosing. I’m sure the ladies at your church will be so blessed by your once a month breakfast. You should definitely follow the nudge. I once was nudged by God to host a monthly prayer gathering for the women in my family for a year. Talk about a task I never would have picked for myself. But it taught me so much.

I think the one I would be most interested in reading right now is “Giving God Your Future”. I struggle so much in this are in our present circumstances, and it hit me the other day that trusting God is truly me releasing the reins and just going with the flow of what He allows, instead of trying to orchestrate the path myself. As you said, control is truly just an illusion. We have NO control over anything at all, really, when it all boils down. I think of so many who have been called out into eternity suddenly, with no chance to do anything at all before meeting God, and I realize that none of us have one ounce of control over any moment of our life. It must frustrate God greatly when He sees us struggle so hard to try to “control” this life. Thank you for the opportunity to win, sweet friend. God bless you. 🙂

Hi Cheryl, I’m always so intrigued in reading your minimalism posts because I struggle so with the letting go. I can’t imagine how our inner struggle must sadden God but I’m so ever grateful for his patience and giving me more opportunities to practice. Wishing you and yours God’s best.

I love the frank approach this study appears to take! Yes- we really are called to trust (and can trust!) that God’s plans are better than any we have for ourselves. Even the parts we don’t like. Thanks for reviewing and sharing!

Indeed we can Bethany 🙂
