Friday Finds | Of Fighting What Scares Us

By Wanda

Oh friends say it isn’t so.  The last day of October really? How is it that some hours tend to creep by yet the days and months are sweeping by me so fast? Are you giving out treats tonight? The piles of candy and other sweet treats is my favorite memory of Halloween as a kid. With all of those masks and costumes, it can be one scary time. But things that make us scared or causes us anxiety are around us every day.

Friday Finds at The Watered Soul

Getting older can be a bit frightening for some us ladies but oh how I loved the wisdom Becky shared in How a 40-Year-Old Woman Can Look 20 Again. And it has nothing at all to do with cosmetics or surgery but rather embracing 5 things: Dream, Learn, Laugh, Open eyes, and Claiming space in the World.

Do you struggle with the fear of embracing your own creativity? Battle thoughts of not being enough.  I love Ella’s words in Bouncing Back.

I believe we are all creative-most of us tuck it away, hide it for a rainy day, or worse-for later in life!   WE all need to be creative now-it is a gift, an escape, a portal to bridge your inner and outer worlds!   Find a way every day to use your gift –Ella

Fear has a way of holding us back. In Faith Walk Ellen reminds us that we miss the beauty of God’s love and faithfulness when refuse to step out of the edge of our comfort zone.

And so it is with my faith walk.  I’m scared to go to the edge of the cliff. I’m afraid to fall on my face while the world watches. I’m afraid God won’t come through for me – ordinary me. – Ellen

Who wouldn’t like to frolic around in peace? Yet Carmen reminds us in Will you fight for your family – this is war to  stand guard because we are in the midst of battle. These words of hers really stood out to me,

Somewhere between the “I dos” and the “happily ever after’s”, every family must suit up and fight the enemy (Eph. 6:11). If you think the enemy is sleeping next to you every night or maybe wearing ear buds and listening to music a few rooms over, you would be wrong. – Carmen

Becky, I thought your message was one many women need to hear. Those so much to growing older gracefully beyond adorning our outer appearances. Many blessings.

Wanda, it’s always a pleasure visiting and reading about what you’ve been reading. I always enjoy your recommendations, and this week features some posts that sound particularly pertinent to me as I am always interested in reading about people who write about fear and how to conquer it!

    GOD BLESS!

Thank you, Wanda, for these wonderful reads. I was talking to a friend this weekend, and she basically said, “I’m alone, and I’m tired of fighting. I’m weary. I can’t even pray.” While it hurt to hear those words, I am glad she felt comfortable enough to admit it, because she was then able to receive encouragement. I reminded her that when God decided to rescue Hagar, He did things she did not even ask for. When we are weak, He’s strong. When we feel we are out of time, He starts something new. When we think we are about to be destroyed, He begins restoring. I’m glad that God is not like us. It is okay to depend totally on Him in the midst of our fears knowing that He never gets tired and never gives up on us.

LaVonne, that’s a testament to trust she has found in you that she felt comfortable enough to open up. So many times people feel the need to put on the mask and never really share where they are at the moment. Keep speaking words of life to others.
