As I sit composing this post, the Christmas tree twinkles with the glow of soft white lights. The packages are clothed in vast array of colored papers and finished with the kiss of a coordinating bow. Except for a for stragglers, who have yet to don their royal dressings. Yes indeed it’s beginning to feel and look a lot like Christmas around my place.
Yet in a few short days, all the majestic wrappings will be stripped away to reveal what’s housed inside of those pretty packages. And if I’m honest most of those lovely packages will be just a faint memory this time next year. Although I attempt to get things my family will, we all know that it’s not the packaging that’s the real gift. And some times the wrapping on the outside looks far better than what’s contained inside.
As I think about the packages, I think about humanity. For our Lord knew exactly what was on the inside of each of us. Yet he chose to redeem us. It was His love for the world that caused Him to send the gift of His precious son-Jesus.
Whether your tree is brimming with gifts or underneath it looks rather bare, let us not forget that the most precious gift can not be found under the tree. But He chose to hang on a cross for you and me. The greatest gift has already been extended to us, however, it’s up to us to receive His gift.
Have you accepted the gift of His salvation?
Are you redeeming the gift of time?
Are you making proper use of the gift of influence?
Are you relishing in the gift of God’s redeeming love?
Are you accepting the gift of His grace and mercy?
I pray your answers are yes but if not, today is the perfect day to open the gift and you don’t even have to wait till Christmas.
Wishing you & yours a very Merry Christmas!
