What all things do you know how to do? If you’re like me, you are likely to underestimate all of the knowledge you do have. Things that may come easy to you others may not know how to do that.
As I was reading in Job 28 this morning, he makes mention of all the things humans knew how to do such as mine silver, dig iron, explore unchartered territories, tear apart flinty rocks, cut tunnels in rocks, and uncover precious stones. Even in a time that lack all the technological advances of today, these people had great knowledge.
Amongst this great roll call of skill, Job poses the question.
But do people know where to find wisdom? Where can they find understanding?
Education and knowledge are useful but it’s not the most valuable thing. Job esteemed wisdom as more valuable than gold, crystal, coral, jasper.
And because it can not be purchased with our earthly goods, we all have equal access to this most prized possession.
God alone understands the way to wisdom (Job 28:23 NLT)
And this is what he says to all humanity: The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding. (Job 28:28 NLT)

I love this post. You said it simply and perfectly, yet it really gives inspiration to ponder and meditate on it. Thanks Wanda!

Well thank you Ren!

Great post, Wanda. Wisdom is all about us, but if we are not silent, it is fleeting. God is always ready to share His wisdom, but we are not always ready to listen. Blessings!
Wanda says
Now that is so true Cynthia, sometimes we just refuse to pay attention.
Cynthia says
If we pay attention, we will have change our thoughts, words and deeds, confessing our sins. And, you know that can be difficult when we thought we were on the right track. Well, change is good!

True, true!

Hi Wanda! I often pray for wisdom, it’s all about the Holy Spirit. I know that the wisdom of his creation is all around, but if I am too busy to notice, I miss it. I need the power of the Spirit to overcome my own ways.
Nice to see you today!

Blessings…..
so often we underestimate ourselves mainly due to misunderstanding or not understanding our worth and value, sadly we are unaware that in diminishing our worth we are underestimating God’s and his infinite power.
Wanda says
So true Rhapsody! Yet we can never fully grasp all of God’s greatness.

Wanda, as I read your words, I am reminded of a verse that always somehow fill me with deep joy (when the whole world seems lost): “All humanity will come to You, the One who hears prayer.” – Psalm 65:2. I pray that all of us, whatever our station in life, will realize that God does not play favorites; He gives wisdom; He responds to ALL who seek Him out.
Wanda says
I love it that we all have access to Him and I love that verse you shared.
Alison Hector says
You know, wisdom is probably the thing I ask God for the most. It’s elusive, Wanda, so we truly have to pursue it intentionally.

Your post is so true. I have had this happen when I pour out my heart and readers only see one insignificant detail that was not the point at all that I hoped to get across. My only hope is they needed that small point and others will catch the real message.
Wanda says
I understand the frustration that can come when it seems others are not getting the main message we intended. But it could very well be that the part the did get is exactly what they needed at that point in their lives. I know I have read something and came away with a light bulb moment that was slightly different from what I read. Keep pouring out Hazel.
Mel Caldicott says
Wanda, it is so easy to have a lot of knowledge and to lack wisdom. The only true source of wisdom is from God.
Thanks for sharing at Essential Fridays.

When I think of knowledge, I’m reminded of the passage that says knowledge puffs up.
