But is one of those three letters words of the English that I have never been too fond of. My brain has a way of dredging up all sorts of negative ideas as soon as I hear someone say it to me. No matter how nice the words may have been before the BUT….those three little words essentially cancel out everything before it. I know perhaps it’s a little immature of me but the little girl in me wants to hit the pause button when those B.I.G three letter word flashes through my conversations.
Yet as I read through my You Are Forgiven,Love God Greatly study, I was encouraged to see instead the beauty and bounty that can be found in those insignificant few little letters strung together.
But is not a big word but it has such a big impact when attached to our powerful God
The hope found in the but God
Joseph saw the significance of the but when he declared to his brothers, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to save many people alive (Genesis 50:20 NKJV)
David understood the power of the but when he declared, my flesh and my heart may fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever (Psalm 73:26)
Our sins declare us guilty yet Romans 5:8 declares But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Life presents us many obstacles and plenty of opportunities to seek out the beauty of the but Gods in our lives as well. Which are you seeing the most of these days?

You are so right, Wanda–the word “but” holds potential. Thankfully, when we hear, “but God”, we need to fear what follows.
Wanda says
I like the way you said so much better Pam. Why didn’t I think of that 🙂

What a great perspective on that three letter word. Leave it to you, sister.
Saw your interview over at Cheryl’s and realized I missed your wisdom.
Thanks for being down to earth, honest, and you…
Wanda says
Floyd, so happy to reconnect with you. Cheryl is such a sweetheart.

Dear Wanda!
So happy to meet you today, after first being introduced to you through our precious sister in Christ, Cheryl’s blog.
You captured my attention with your post on “but”… so many times it does have such a negative connotation, but praise God, as you shared, the word “BUT” in God’s book can mean that instead of getting what we deserved, grace and mercy step up to the plate, and something powerful and transforming happens… changing the negative connotation to joyful! Thank you for pointing this out, and I will be “munching’ on this little tidbit of yours today. Many blessings and hugs to you dear sister, and will be praying for the Lord to continue HIS mighty work in you and through you! 🙂

Hi MM,
Isn’t Cheryl such a sweet person? I’m so delighted to have been invited over to her place and given the opportunity to meet her friends such as you. It’s often the little words that have a way of screaming out to me when I’m reading God’s Word. I’m so appreciative of your kind words and prayers. I pray that God blesses your endeavors as well. Have a great week.

hmmmmmm……I like that, if used properly one can see its virtues.
Yes but is a negator however as you pointed out if used in the right way, for the right reason and precisely the right time one can triumph with BUT.
thanks for sharing.
peace.

Yes if we look we can often find some value in all things. Have a great week.

I loved this. His ‘but’ trumps all of our ‘buts.’ Thanks for sharing xx
Wanda says
Isn’t that great news Carly! Who but God could do that?
Sharon says
Yes, Wanda, *but* is only a word that we wrongly use to limit. I would do this and that, but…
However, like you so wisely said, God can take those limiting *buts* and turn them into His limitless opportunities. BUT GOD…!!
GOD BLESS!
Wanda says
I’m so grateful that God moves beyond the limits even the ones we set ourselves.
Dayle says
It’s natural to think the word “but” is going to precede something negative, but how wonderful when it does the opposite. But GOD!
I enjoyed this post and your interview with Cheryl.
Wanda says
Ahh thanks, Dayle. Pleasure to meet you by Wanda of Cheryl’s. She is such a blessing.

Well I have reached your place and with honesty tears in my eyes not sure why but it is so. Funny I’m not even sure what to write at the moment. The coversation of the word but is wonderful. I have been trying to use positive with everything that I’m faced with. And I hold on to the but God will show me I know he will… I don’t know when that will be, but it seems that little by little I’m going places I never thought. Like here. I mentioned on the other blog growing up a witness and being somewhat lost with not going to church and counting on God and our lord Jesus to help me find my place. I enjoyed your interview and your scriptures of encouragement. Thank you for that… For now I will stop here and look around. Thank you so mich and I’m so happy I found you dear sister… With love Janice
Wanda says
Ahh Janice, thank you so much for sharing these sweet words, my sister. In our journeys with Jesus, we often end up places we never thought some pleasant and others not but we can rest assured they all serve a greater purpose.

Ahh thank you so much Shabana. It’s one of the things I’ve come to love about blogging, you are able to connect with so many people I wouldn’t otherwise have an opportunity to met.
