You ever have those moments when you are having a conversation with someone and you are expressing yourself and then it comes time for the other person to speak and you question if they heard anything you said at all?
It’s frustrating when it happens to you. But what about when we do it to others?I found myself recently trying to wing a conversation. The topic of the conversation was not my favorite subject but even worse I was having phone challenges. You see I was multitasking-talking and driving (with a hands free device) and in some spots I was getting spotty reception. Rather than keep saying what did you say. I was just pretending to hear what was being said.
Nobody likes to talk at someone. We all long to be fully heard.
I recently came across this passage of scripture from Psalms 116:2(NLT)
Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!
Can I tell you there has been times it felt as if God was not listening to my whines of oh long oh Lord? There are times even now that I’m tempted to push off certain requests that I have been bringing before him on many occasions. But the Psalmists words encourage me.
We continually have the ear of one who listens.
Wanda, I loved this!! I have experienced both sides of your thoughts – the times when someone wasn’t really listening to me, and I could tell. And other times when I was the faulty listener.
Praise His name – He ALWAYS listens, with His heart wide open! I sometimes can’t believe that He doesn’t tire of me. That He actually loves hearing from me. So, because of that, I will pray as long as I have breath! “It’s me again, Lord.” Picture the smile on His face as He bends down and replies, “Tell me, my daughter. I AM here.”
GOD BLESS!
Sharon I was all set to talk about how bad I feel one I speak and the other party isn’t listening when God politely brought to my attention how I had just recently done the same thing. Needless to say the passage took a new light. It want to be fully present when others are in my presence and to think that God is always fully listening even when find ourselves on repeat. I don’t know how he stand us sometimes. Oh what amazing love he has for us.
Love the picture you posted with this. And I love the encouragement of Psalm 116:2. He IS listening!
In a world where there is a lot of voices speaking it’s good news to know that we have the attentive ears of the king.
Dear Wanda! I loved this post! I want to apologize to you, also, for never getting a post up on my blog about the post that you were so kind to publish on your blog. We had to go out of town, as my mother-in-law has been very ill, and I just never had a chance to follow through on this. Please forgive me, and thank you ever so much for publishing my post. I, too, am so thankful we have a God Who is so faithful to listen to us every time we call upon Him!
Hi Cheryl, no worries. We understand that life happens and there are more important things that calls for our attention. Blessings to you.
This was an excellent reminder for me today. Thank you! I look forward to reading more on your blog.
Anne
Hi Anne, great to have you stop over today. Always a pleasure to meet someone new.
beautifully said! How awesome that we have a God who is always listening, even if He must sometimes want to tune out our whining and overtalking. Don’t you ever think He must want to say, “enough already! I’ve heard you! Now just be quiet and listen and look at how I’m already at work on this.” Grateful we have a patient God to put up with us 🙂
I can only imagine that He must get weary of hearing our complaints. Oh but that great love he has for us.
How wonderful it is to have a God who always listens. I pray for His help in teaching me to be a better listener to others. Blessings to you, friend. xoxo
It’s such a sweet reminder that he longs to hear us.
I have so been in both pairs of those shoes
and it’s frustrating to be in either.
I sometimes wonder at myself, disapproving,
even as I’m not listening.
I want to learn to honor each person
so much better than I currently do.
Thanks for the wonderful reminder,
Jennifer
As do I Jennifer. It’s such a simple yet powerful gift we give to one another when really give the gift of being heard.
Hi Wanda! I am very guilty of this sometimes, but I do try to catch myself. Who knows what I’ll agree to! I am really getting a word from the Lord that I need to slow down in my encounters with others. No fair rushing through, he wants to speak to me through them too.
Have a peaceful week Wanda!

To be fully present in my current moment is the goal I aiming towards these days although it is one I struggle.
Thank you, Wanda, for that powerful reminder. Yes, there are times when I have lost confidence because I felt as if God had His fingers in His ears, BUT I know better.
Don’t lose your confidence, since it holds a great reward for you. – Hebrews 10:35
Keep those prayers and petitions going up, for God IS certainly hearing and responding. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
LaVonne, oh how I have had to use that passage from Hebrews to encourage myself many times during the times God seem to turn a deaf ear to my pleas.
I love this call to go to God in prayer…not necessarily because we might get what we’re asking for but simply because He stoops down to listen. There is so much to contemplate there. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
Amy I had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hope you did as well. The fact that God stoops down to listen is what really caught my eye in that passage. Sometimes a listening ear is what we really long for most.
OUCH! I have certainly been on both sides of this fence as have many commenting above me. The “ouch” is when I “pretend” to hear and have been like you and not heard and did not want to ask what they just said. Or my mind was elsewhere and I missed something vital to the conversation. By a response they make to my comment, I know that they know I did not hear them. OUCH!
I want to listen and hear and am thankful that our God does hear every word. He is not multitasking or doing other things for He can do all.
Glad I came by, Wanda.
Caring through Christ, ~ linda
Hi Linda, it can be embarrassing when others find out we haven’t been fully paying attention can’t it? But I’m thankful for the reminder the incident gave me.
Beautiful. I read somewhere that “God bends over the balcony of heaven just to hear my voice.” Oh, that brings me so much comfort.
Wow….isn’t that just amazing.
